Faced with overwhelming tragedy, hitting hardest at the poorest citizens of America, what does Rick Santorum call for? Legal penalties for getting trapped in New Orleans.

"...you have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving."

Yes, Rick, all those people stayed in New Orleans because they wanted to.

Attitudes like this toward those that need help the most are why, over a year before the Senatorial elections, I am formally endorsing Bob Casey for U.S. Senate in his race against Rick Santorum. Mr. Casey is Auditor General of Pennsylvania, a position for someone with a strong sense of fairness and a desire to see government live up to its promise of equality before the law. He has, among many other achievements during his tenure in the position, forced Pennsylvania's previous governor Tom Ridge (R) to roll back child care fee hikes that fell on struggling families, and worked for better access to state contracts for women-owned and minority-owned businesses.

Because, for Cripes' sakes. Kick a man while he's down, Rick.
