Indymedia New York has video of Brick Township, New Jersey high school teacher Stuart Mantel forcing students to stand for the National Anthem.
Ironically, the student who took the video was suspended for 10 days for supposedly having "violated the teacher's Constitutional rights". The teacher was not punished.

Clearly a classroom that was out of control and without any discipline whatsoever. Does anyone doubt that the misbehavior of the students would have abated had the teacher been reciting a passage from Marx? Of course not. The actions exhibited by the students has no political basis. It's the ideological response of idiots like "nuke free zone" that is so telling. These kids simply have no respect nor desire to learn.
Posted by: Nom de plume at March 2, 2005 12:16 PMIt is against the law to force anyone to stand for the national anthem. See West Virginia Board of Education v. Barnette. Any indiscipline in the class might merely be a reflection of a teacher out of control and without any discipline whatsoever nor respect for the students' legally protected liberty not to stand. Also, thank you for the insult. Could you please state what exactly this article is telling of, and perhaps explain grounds for the student's suspension and why a teacher ought not to be written up for breaking the law in such a way that violates students' liberty?
Well this child is a product of his own culture, the teachers do not have the right to do much but use their voice, he didnt touch him, he told him to stand, and the student didnt want to, so he took the chair away, he this CHILD wanted to he could have sat on the floor then, also hes a minor so his rights end when his arm touches the persons nose next to him. Hopefuly the parents will tell him its alright and to sue the state, and the parents for that matter for not rasing him right, however I hope they go for the one who has the most money, that way
